Bellows Covers & PM Inspections

“Bellows Covers:   These specially made covers are used to protect your ballscrews from debris damage.  When these covers get damaged they leave the potential to crash the machine and/or damage the ballscrews.  These covers need to be inspected on a regular basis and repaired or replaced if necessary.”

“We have come across an issue that has occurred in several machines.  Problem: Rear section of Z axis tilting and loose.  Unless familiar with issue it may be hard to determine if problem exists.”

Table Bearing Failure

“There are a lot of machines that are older than 10 years and haven’t had any work to their tables.  The tables are the most used axis and the most susceptible to debris damage.  We would recommend a bearing change if you’ve had greasing failure in the past or if you still have the original bearings.”

“Lack of grease causes premature wear to rails.  We would recommend that bearings be replaced, grease fittings be flushed and then the table has to be properly tensioned.”

Motor Lubrication

“Monthly Topic:   Motor Lubrication

Whether you have Greased style or Oil mist motors, it is crucial that the correct lubrication be maintained at all times.  The oil mist units below are to be adjusted to 1 drop every two seconds with the main air set at .17mpa.   Note:  Must adjust to motor configuration.  Example:  If you run all motors down and on then adjust oil mist and air with all motors down and on.  A more thorough explanation of the adjustment procedures is provided with a PM inspection by TSG.”

Spindle Taper & Grease Hose Routing

“In recent months, we have noticed a trend on many of our customer’s machines.   We have seen many operators using large wrenches or hammering on their collet nuts to tighten them down.   DO NOT TIGHTEN COLLETS IN THIS MANNER.  If you have to use a hammer or large wrench to tighten your collet nuts, then it is time to replace or repair your spindle.   Collets and collet nuts need to be kept clean along with the taper.  DO NOT — USE OIL BASED PRODUCTS ON TAPERS.”

100V Transformer Electrical Cabinets

“Customers that have a 100v power supply at the back of their machines need to be cautious of debris build up inside of the cabinet.  The power supply panel location can vary depending on the model of the machine, but usually it is located either on the left or right side rear of the machine in the base.”
